Expert of the Week: Mark Cannizzaro

Our latest Expert of the Week is Mark Cannizzaro of the New York Post. Cannizzaro has been with The Post since 1993, serving as their beat writer for the Jets until 2010. He then became a columnist covering the Giants, Jets, NFL, NCAA, and various other spots.

Cannizzaro is successful in the betting space, and Pickwatch has been tracking him since 2019 on over 1,700 bets. In the six years of recorded picks, Cannizzaro has a win rate over 50% on NFL ATS bets, and has posted huge returns by hitting at least 60% of his weekly bets eight times, and at least 70% two times. 2019 was his best finish, as his 52.3% hit rate on NFL ATS had him ranked 17th overall, and 2024 was the most profitable year with a +37.24 units.

Week 12 Recap

It was an incredible week for Cannizzaro as he went 11-5 (68.8%) Against The Spread, helping him finish No 4 overall, which is his first time finishing in the top ten since Week 4 when he was No. 7. Sitting at 22nd among experts, this could help him finish inside the top 30 for the first time since 2019 when he was 17th.

The expanded Thursday schedule was not a good day for Cannizzaro, going 1-3 ATS. He rebounded on Friday with the Bears (+7) covering against the Eagles, and carried that momentum all the way into Sunday, where he hit 10 of 12 games. That Sunday, he was successful in picking the biggest favorite of the day, taking the Seahawks (-11), and on the flip side, he took one of the bigger dogs, correctly predicting Carolina (+10.5) would keep it close against the Rams.

Going against the consensus in Week 13 worked out a couple of times for Cannizzaro. He was all over some underdogs, including the Cowboys (+3.5) against the Chiefs, which was only taken by 45% of experts, the Jets (+2.5) against the Falcons, which was chosen by just 38% of experts, and the Commanders (+6) against the Broncos, selected by just 23% of experts.
